a Venus for the 2015 Denver Chalk Arts Festival

the end of Saturday, day one, we got a lot of chalk on the ground...twice!

Ah, the annual Denver Chalk Art Festival! What an amazing event, 13 years in the running.  I was able to participate again this year, which marks my fourth or fifth year chalking it up. Many of my local artist friends have been showing up every year, but this was the first in about 5 years that I had volunteered my chalking efforts on the streets of Larimer Square.

I was told by one Larimer Arts Association member that approximately 100,000 people would walk the streets and get a viewing of over a hundred amazing examples of temporary chalk art over the weekend.

The annual chalk arts event in Denver runs for three days. We would have started outlining our works on Friday June 5th, had the weather in Denver not been so very wet.
So we waited (we being the Laurie Maves Art team of myself and my eldest son, Forest) until Saturday June 6th to get started on out 8'x8' reproduction of one of my 2015 paintings called,
"Venus and the Ponte Vecchio"

detail of Laurie Maves' 72"x72' mixed media painting on canvas, 2015. all rights reserved by the artist
Below are some photos of the weekend's process, including the untimely downpour at 3pm in the afternoon, which inevitably washed away over 80% of what Forest and I had gotten on the pavement in the prior 6 hours of work.

9 am on Saturday morning

just about noon on Saturday. Forest at work
and then the rains came at 2pm

and this is what remained...

venus detail day 2, Sunday June 7, 2015

after a day's worth of hustle I was able to complete the image Forest and I started

many thanks to our square sponsor, the band, Something Underground

When all was said and done, even with the rains and all the back-breaking, knee-crunching work, the image came out beautifully.  I am so grateful for the assistance of my son on day one. What a great way to spend 8 ours with a fabulous child. I am also most grateful to have had the opportunity to work next to a longtime artist colleague and dear friend, Eric Matelski. Eric was the guy who said to me over a decade ago, "If you can chalk live, you can paint live!" and my life changed from then on!

Can you believe that title of this blog?
REAL? ORIGINAL? ARTWORK? STARTING AT $.99?

I've got lots of the work in the studio.
I'm a self-proclaimed prolific artist.
I've got to move art this summer to make room in the studio for new works.
New Healthy Cell paintings and new Dragonfly and Metamorphosis paintings.
So yes, I'm practically giving the work away, and that's great for you and great for me because I get to share what I make with the world, and you can buy it for a price of your choosing.
So check out my LAURIE MAVES ART page on EBAY:

A very special summer sale...ART

here I am standing with a handful of works from my "Entitled" series in 2013.

It's almost June.
The studio is full.
I'm making a whole new series of "Healthy Cell" paintings.
It's time to move some artwork.

I've always said, "I'm in the business of making artwork, not storing it."
therefore, the time has come for another miraculous Laurie Maves ARTsy SALE.

Throughout the entire month of June, I will be offering 20 pieces from my "Entitled" series. Some framed, some unframed, some on canvas, some on paper. Original prices on all of these pieces ranged from $175 - $900. Now is when the party begins...for You!.

I will be promoting this sale with a different featured piece every morning on Twitter (@LaurieMavesArt #JuneArtSale #Entitled). Don't worry. If you're not one of those social media bugs, it's ok. I will be posting them on my blog as well - right here on Blogger.  The piece for sale that day will have an original price attached to it. If that price seems fair and suits your budget, then go ahead and pull the trigger.  If you love the piece, but simply can't swing it financially at the moment, let me know what you can afford, and we'll see if we can make a deal.

I've had ARTsy sales like this in the past. 6 months ago I ran the ART Stealio Dealio, and that was very successful at not only helping me make more room in my studio for new works, it also allowed for a number of art collectors and Laurie Maves ART fans to get some original artwork at prices they could afford.

So be on the lookout for June deals and summer fun and remember, giving the gift of original artwork always brings smiles.

Enjoy!

New Etsy Page for Greeting Cards and Custom Orders

Hi Folks!
It's that time again, a time to start a new media/online shopping/wonderful way to pass a couple hours surfing the net of creative items PAGE.
That's right, I have joined (or rejoined) Etsy after a 5 year hiatus. I have found that the site gets a lot of traffic from many people who are not on the regular social media platforms, so I am hoping that my art will find it's way into the homes of bright and brilliant new collectors.
For now, you can purchase sets of digitally printed greeting cards of carious watercolors and paintings I have created in the past. Some are of Frida, some of Buddha, as well as poppies, daisies and a scene from lovely Venice, Italy.
I am also selling original artwork through that page, as well as taking custom orders for animal or landscape paintings. (I will always offer stylized portraits and other commissions as well, but thought to start with some examples of animals/landscapes and other reproduced paintings.)
Here's the link to the Custom Orders Page: Laurie Maves ARTsy CUSTOM ORDERS page on ETSY
and the link for the home page: ARTsy ETSY homage where you will see all the other fab fab items that are all for sale.
Thanks again for all your support, encouragement, and willingness to take part in the love for ART!
