My involvement with the Rocky Mountain LLS

I recently sent the following letter out to my friends and family. But this Sunday morning I decided that I could possibly raise greater awareness and help fight the battle to wipe out blood cancers more effectively if I brought my request to my readers and my followers. If this letter strikes a chord in you, please consider donating to Michael's LLS campaign. WIth deepest appreciation,
Laurie Maves

Dearest friends and family,

As you know, many changes have happened in my life since December 2011. With those changes, I have had the blessed experience of pseudo-mothering a 17 year old boy, Michael Guglielmi. Michael decided recently to take on the amazing challenge of running his very own fundraising campaign to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Michael’s father, Ralph, who is very very dear to my heart, is an 8 year survivor of Leukemia.  Since my involvement with Ralph and Michael, I have joined them in their commitment to help wipe out blood cancers as best as any one person can do. Below you can read Michael’s request for assistance with his Man of the Year Campaign which only runs a few more weeks. I’m certain you know someone who has been either been effected directly or indirectly by a blood cancer in their lifetime. I’m hoping you can support Michael (the only teenager even attempting to run for such an honor this year in the Rocky Mountain Region) by donating to his campaign.

He has shown a great deal of maturity and has taken on a great responsibility with his efforts.  If you have any questions please contact me.  And know any amount you are able to give is substantial.  And please – forward onto as many friends and family as you are willing and able.  It’s amazing how passing this letter on has helped raise more than we could ever think possible.

With deepest appreciation,
Laurie Maves

Dear Friends and Family,

Over the next ten weeks I am privileged enough to represent the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s(LLS) Man and Woman of the Year Campaign . I decided to run in this campaign because not only is my father the current president of the board of trustees and was elected Man of the Year in 2007, but he is also a blood cancer survivor. When he was diagnosed with leukemia, he was only given a 15% chance of survival.  Since then, thanks to many advances funded by the LLS, people’s chances of surviving blood cancers have significantly improved. Unfortunately, there is still much work to be done. Every ten minutes, someone else loses their battle to blood cancer. I don’t want another person to go through what I witnessed my father go through. Yes, every dollar raised is a point towards the campaign, but more importantly every dollar raised, goes to finding a cure, funding physicians, and helping patients. I ask you to please not only visit my website, http://www.mwoy.org/pages/rm/denver13/michaelguglielmi , but consider donating any amount that you are able to towards my Man Of the Year Campaign. Also please forward this letter to your friends and family so we can help wipe out this horrible disease. I promise you that you will be a significant part of not only my campaign, but a crucial piece in the puzzle that will provide help and hope for many people, children and families afflicted by blood cancers.

 With great appreciation,

Michael Guglielmi
